Hacienda La
Pacífica has a history that is over 100 years old. Its actual size is
2,650 hectares, equivalent to 6,550 acres.
It’s located in the interamerican highway in the Guanacaste province,
the fastest growing tourist region in Costa Rica. It’s only 45 minutes
from Liberia International Airport and 2 1/2 hours from Juan Santamaría
International Airport in San José.
In 1992, an important irrigation project, part of the largest
hydroelectric complex in Costa Rica (Arenal Lake and hydroelectric
plants) developed by the governmental organization SENARA, became a
reality. It provides fresh water irrigation to more than 50,000 ha.
during the non rainy season. La Pacifica was one of the first important
farms to be connected to the irrigation channel and to introduce
irrigation techniques.
Today, La Pacifica is focused mainly on tilapia farming, cattle
ranching, conventional rice and certified organic rice. However,
because of its strategic location and characteristics, its true
potential is for real estate development (for second homes) and for
large scale ecotourism projects such as lodging, hiking, climbing,
horse-back riding, canopying-zip lines, aerial tram, flora/fauna/bird
watching, volcano visiting, hanging bridges, bungee jumping, water
rafting, fishing, etc. Also, because of its proximity to the
Guanacaste, Nicoya and Central Pacific coasts, it can also cater to
visitors interested in day-trips to the beach for sun and swimming. Due
to its location/climate/topography/water availability, the property is
ideally suited for developing a golf course and country club,
artificial lakes, a wild life zoo/safari and a hydroelectric project
capable of providing power to the entire hacienda (the pre-feasibility
study is available).
